Vignettes from some of Kinship
Center's adopted children
"We are sisters! Our names
are Jessie and Amanda, ages 5 and 7. Before
Kinship Center helped us to find our adopted
family we were in different foster homes and
could not see each other. Now we share the same
room, play together and sometimes argue. We
are happy - we are sisters!"
"My name is Emmanuel and
I am six years old. I was born drug addicted
and was a very sick baby. My parents adopted
me at Kinship Center when I was six months old.
I don't remember any of those hard times, but
my parents made sure that I got all of the help
I needed to be a normal boy. I am having a hard
time learning to read, but am making progress
in my special class. I have all the love that
any child could dream of and I am in every way
a busy, playful, normal boy."
"Looking back, I was adopted
when I was 18, and became "official" after five
years living in my Kinship Center foster home.
The early years were tough, I know I drove Carol
and Ned crazy…I pushed them away, broke the
rules, lied more than I told the truth. They
hung in with me, and waited for me to love them
back, gave me room to be my own person and still
be their child. I love drawing, and they made
sure I had all the best lessons with Kinship's
support…one of the best days I will know was
presenting a pen and ink portrait of Joe Montana
to the man himself….he has it hanging in his
workout room."
